A couple in their 70s died after a house fire broke out in Graham yesterday. According to KOMO News, smoke was seen coming from their home on 27600 Webster Rd E. A neighbor attempted to alert the couple but was forced to retreat due to intense flames.
Central Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to the scene but faced challenges, including limited water resources that required water tenders to shuttle supply. With assistance from South Pierce Fire & Rescue, crews managed to bring the fire under control despite structural concerns. The Pierce County Fire Marshal and Pierce County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause, with early findings suggesting a heating source may have been involved.
MYNorthwest reported that a neighbor witnessed the fire and tried to help but was unable to enter the home safely. Deputy Carly Cappetto noted that dropping overnight temperatures may have contributed to increased use of heating devices.
According to FOX 13 Seattle, firefighters discovered the second victim after extinguishing the flames. Central Pierce Fire & Rescue stated that crews dealt with a limited water supply and a damaged second floor. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
