A man suffering from a gunshot wound made his own way into Harborview Medical Center's emergency department earlier today, leading Seattle police detectives to initiate an investigation into yet another troubling instance of gun violence in the city.
According to the Seattle Police Department's Blotter, the incident occurred around 11:50 a.m., and patrol officers were dispatched to the hospital after the injured man, who had a bullet wound in his back, sought medical assistance without waiting for paramedics, it's a move that can sometimes provide crucial immediate care but also muddies the investigative waters as officials strive to piece together the events that led to such injury.
Investigators traced the origin of the man's injuries to an area near 12th Avenue South and South Main Street, the scene marked by just two shell casings, which hints at violence abruptly executed and just as quickly abandoned. Unfortunately, at this time, there is no information available about a potential suspect as detectives continue to unravel the string of events that concluded with a self-directed dash to emergency care.
Members of the Gun Violence Reduction Unit were among those who responded to the call at HMC, where they aimed to interview the victim. The team is no stranger to the narratives of survival and the silent testimonies of empty casings on cold concrete. In a public appeal, Seattle Police ask that anyone with knowledge of the shooting contact them through the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000, in hopes that they may gather enough pieces to craft the fuller story behind yet another statistic in the city's fight against gun violence.
