Hilliard's search is on for a new member of their Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z), as they look to fill an at-large position slated to start in the new year. According to an announcement on the City of Hilliard's official website, the Hilliard City Council is taking applications for one full term starting January 1, 2026, with the engagement promised for four years.
The Commission, which meets every second Thursday at the Hilliard Municipal Building, plays a vital role in guiding the city's development by weighing in on land use planning issues and proposed zoning code changes. The Commission, which holds considerable influence on how the urban landscape unfolds, also takes on the review of zoning requests and development plans. Composed of seven members who must be city electors, two serve at large, while the others represent the city’s five wards. Hilliard's P&Z operates under the dictates set forth in Article IX of the Hilliard City Charter and Chapter 1107 of the Codified Ordinances.
Potential candidates are expected to bring a cache of abilities to the table, including an understanding of municipal ordinances, a capacity for effective communication in public forums, and a keen interest in development-related community issues. In the words of the city's call for applicants, the ideal candidate may possess "knowledge of or interest in community issues relating to development," and other related skills that converge with the demands of the role, according to the City of Hilliard.
Amidst a landscape where urban planning becomes increasingly central to the fabric of community life, Hilliard City Council's invitation stands as an opportunity for residents to contribute to the city's growth and evolution, and according to the guidelines listed by the city, expertise in development-related fields is considered a bonus, as is the ability to keenly analyze planning issues. Applicants are instructed to submit their applications, which should include the necessary documentation and a résumé, by October 17th. Council members may reach out for interviews as part of the selection process, and queries are directed to be sent to Clerk of Council Diane Werbrich at [email protected].
