Approaching the holiday season with health in mind, Hillsborough County residents have the opportunity to equip themselves with knowledge to fend off dietary-related health issues. The Hillsborough County Extension Service is offering online classes focusing on cancer prevention and diabetes management as the chill of autumn beckons families back to their kitchens.
The "Cooking for a Lifetime of Cancer Prevention" class, going virtual tomorrow, Oct. 2 at noon, addresses a critical issue – breast cancer, which continues to affect thousands annually in Florida. The one-hour webinar provides insights into the American Cancer Society's guidelines and practical nutritional advice aimed at lowering cancer risks. Those interested in the class can register here.
Likewise, individuals grappling with diabetes and their supporters can glean valuable lessons from the "Dining with Diabetes" series. Starting Oct. 27 and running for four consecutive Thursdays, these sessions from 10 to 11:30 a.m will cover meal planning, cooking techniques, and recipes tailored for diabetic needs. Registration is open for a fee of $15, covering all four parts of the series. Further information and signup details can be found here.
The initiative is a partnership with the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and the county service. Apart from these offerings, the extension service boasts a range of additional educational opportunities throughout October.
