The well-known Hollywood Markets sign in Troy will soon disappear as the grocery chain announces the closure of its Maple Road location, following the earlier shutdown of its Rochester store earlier this year, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit.
Founded in 1966 and serving the community for nearly 60 years, the Troy store is closing due to the pressures of competition and changing retail trends. This mirrors the chain’s previous closures of its Shelby Township and Lake Orion locations in 2017 and 2018. An article by ClickOnDetroit attributes the recent closure to the "retail climate and intense competition."
Despite the Troy store's imminent closure, Hollywood Markets stated that employees at this location are not being left behind they will be offered positions within their remaining branches in Madison Heights, Royal Oak, and Bloomfield Hills, as detailed in a statement by the Welch Family and Holiday Markets and provided by ClickOnDetroit.
The company’s history began with the Welch family opening their first store in Detroit in 1924, followed by the launch of the Hollywood Markets brand in 1950. Despite recent challenges, the company remains focused on sustaining and growing its remaining locations. This commitment was expressed in a Facebook post, shared by The Detroit News, which highlighted their gratitude for decades of community support and trust.
Although a final closing date for the Troy location has not been officially confirmed, indications point to the store ceasing operations by the end of the month. This follows a pattern similar to the earlier closure of their Rochester store, which The Detroit News reported was due to "differing visions with the plaza's landlord."
