Thousands are expected to gather in Houston and nearby areas this weekend for the “No Kings” demonstrations. Officials are urging non-violence and warning residents of possible traffic disruptions downtown, as reported by CW39.
Houston will host events at Discovery Green and City Hall, with additional events in Kingwood and Katy, as part of over 2,500 nationwide gatherings, according to KHOU. The “No Kings” movement focuses on nonviolent protest, asking participants to de-escalate conflicts and not bring weapons. A past event in Salt Lake City involved a counter-protester with a rifle, resulting in injuries and one death.
The “No Kings” movement, inspired by the 50501 Movement, plans demonstrations across all 50 states. They said, "They’ve defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services," referring to actions under the Trump administration, as per KHOU. The protests come after National Guard deployments in some cities and statements from White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, who said Trump has "plenary authority" to deploy the military domestically. Houston events will be live-streamed on KHOU 11+ and on Roku, Fire TV, and Apple TV.
