Two parents from Houston are facing serious allegations after reportedly leaving their six-month-old infant unattended on a beach in Florida. Brian Wilks, 40, and Sara Wilks, 37, have been charged with child neglect without great bodily harm following an incident last Friday, FOX 26 Houston reports. Witnesses claimed the child was alone for around an hour on Miramar Beach in Walton County while the parents were elsewhere with their other children.

The Walton County Sheriff's Office was alerted to the scene after good Samaritans began caring for the infant and contacted authorities. Upon arrival, deputies reviewed security footage that confirmed the family's absence, which spanned nearly an hour, and observed that the couple did not have their cell phones with them during this time. Despite the child's vital signs being considered normal and showing no distress, the situation led to an immediate response from the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF).

The involved children were taken into custody by DCF, pending the arrival of other family members from Texas. After bonding out of jail the next day on a $1,000 bond, the parents' actions continue to stir concern and dialogue around child safety. As reported by the Walton County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Michael Adkinson emphasized the community's dedication to protecting children. "We’re thankful for the quick-thinking beachgoer who raised the alarm, and for those who stepped in to care for the child with the same kindness and concern they would show their own," he said.

While the infant was found to be in good health, the case reflects the potential hazards of leaving young children unsupervised, even for brief periods. The arrest of Brian and Sara Wilks serves as a cautionary tale to parents about maintaining vigilance when it comes to the safety and well-being of their children, irrespective of the perceived security of their surroundings.
