As Huntersville prepares to celebrate the festival of Diwali in grandeur, local residents should gear up for inevitable road closures. A special event, courtesy of Huntersville Parks and Recreation in collaboration with a new local non-profit, is set to light up Veterans Park on Saturday, October 11 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. according to the Town of Huntersville official announcement.
The celebration will, however, bring with it some inconveniences for drivers. Main Street—stretching from Huntersville-Concord Road to the border of the American Legion Post 321—and Maxwell Avenue from Huntersville-Concord Road to the same boundary will be off-limits. The closures are scheduled to quickly begin at 1 p.m. and linger until two hours past sundown, culminating at 9 p.m. Proactive measures are being instituted, as officers plan to be on site and message boards have been dispatched to duly alert motorists of the traffic disruptions.
Festival-goers can expect an atmosphere replete with cultural vibrancy, as Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, represents a time of joy and celebration for many. The event seeks to be a melting pot of culture, inclusivity, and community bonding right in the heart of Huntersville. Nevertheless, with public festivities come necessary safety and logistical considerations, which in this case take the form of road closures.
The town's alert system recommended that citizens plan ahead to avoid inconveniences. "Officers will be on site and message boards are being placed ahead of the event to help notify drivers of the road closures," it emphasized on the Town of Huntersville website.
