Starting October 13, commuters in Jackson, Michigan will need to find alternative routes as the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) begins repairs on the Michigan Avenue north roundabout at I-94. These repairs are part of a broader effort under Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's Rebuilding Michigan program to enhance the state's infrastructure. According to MDOT, this roundabout will be closed from 7 a.m. on Oct. 13 until 7 a.m. on Oct. 27.
The I-94 road and bridge reconstruction project in Jackson County is valued at $162 million. Aimed at extending the infrastructure's lifespan, the improvements are expected to enhance road conditions and support significant economic activity. During the closure, traffic will be rerouted to reduce delays: eastbound drivers on I-94 will use the Parma Road on and off ramps (Exit 130), while westbound traffic will be detoured via the Concord Road (Exit 127) and Parma Road (Exit 130) ramps.
The project, which is anticipated to be completed by November, has been identified as crucial to both the local and national economy, particularly regarding trade. As part of Gov. Whitmer's program, the goal is to restore and enhance the highways and bridges that carry the highest traffic volumes in the state. The current roadwork is a continuation of those efforts and represents a proactive step toward averting future wear and tear.
