The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has indicated a consistent weather pattern for the upcoming days, with temperatures fluctuating mildly as the week progresses. According to their latest update, the city will experience mostly cloudy skies today with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. A 30 percent chance of rain persists into the evening before the night falls to a cooler 63℉.
Looking towards Monday, residents can expect to mostly sunny conditions with a high near 76 degrees and northeast wind speeds picking up between 9 to 11 mph, with potential gusts as high as 17 mph. As the week unfolds, sunny skies seem to firmly establish themselves with highs steadily in the low 80s and nighttime lows dipping into the low 60s.
More importantly, beachgoers should take serious caution as a high rip current risk remains in effect through late tonight for several coastal areas. "Dangerous rip currents" have been the highlighted concern for Coastal Nassau, Coastal Duval, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, and Southeast Coastal St. Johns Counties. The National Weather Service strongly advises that swimmers stay near lifeguards and follow protocol in case they find themselves caught in a rip current.
The precautions against the impending rip currents have been well advertized, but it bears repeating to "Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help," stresses the National Weather Service. This warning is reflective of historical patterns where rip currents have posed significant risks, even to swimmers with considerable experience and strength.
