The City of Jacksonville and the Riverside Avondale Preservation are infusing art into the city's infrastructure with a new mural project set to adorn a Riverside pump station. In an announcement the local government lauded muralist Patrick Maxcy's winning design selected from a pool of over 70 submissions, which aims to capture the essence of Jacksonville through motifs of flowing rivers, surrounding wildlife, and communal spirit on what was once a bare brick wall.
Maxcy's design stands as a vivid homage to the city’s paramount resource, water, with a creative approach that aligns with Jacksonville's ongoing efforts to embellish its urban landscape with meaningful art. The process has been bolstered by generous contributions from Hardbarger Painting and Sunbelt Rentals; both entities have donated resources towards the completion of the mural, supporting the artistic venture as its progress is eagerly anticipated by residents and city officials alike.
Interest in the soon-to-be artistic landmark has sparked conversations on social platforms, with the City of Jacksonville's official Facebook page providing updates on the mural's status. The city's statement expresses their excitement detailing Maxcy's work "will transform the brick wall into a vibrant tribute to Jacksonville’s greatest resource: water," marking a creative twist to an otherwise mundane utility structure.
The final reveal of the mural is penciled in for November.
