Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., announced a trial conviction for Jermaine Gabadian, 40, who has been found guilty of a series of horrific crimes against his former girlfriend, including predatory sexual assault, rape, kidnapping, and assault. The conviction came on Wednesday after a New York Supreme Court jury deliberation. Gabadian's sentencing is scheduled for December 5, according to a release from the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

Bragg described the violence and coercion Gabadian used to control the victim. The abuse, which lasted for two months, began after Gabadian moved in with the victim without consent. “I commend this survivor for her incredible bravery in reporting these crimes and testifying at trial for six days,” District Attorney Bragg said in a statement released by the DA’s office.

Throughout the relationship, Gabadian escalated his threats and violence, from verbal threats to using a kitchen knife to terrorize and harm the victim. On one occasion, he pressed the knife to her and assaulted her while holding the weapon. The detailed account provided by the DA's office revealed how Gabadian manipulated and abused his victim and force her to record a video accusing herself of manipulation.

The survivor tried to escape the abuse. She made a safety plan with a friend and got help from a victim advocacy group, using a text-based alert system. Gabadian still used threats and violence. He strangled her and accused her of cheating after she came back from a job interview. Later, he held her at gunpoint, threatened to kill her, and forced her to the bathroom floor, according to the DA's Office release.

The case against Gabadian was prosecuted by Assistant D.A.s Mirah Curzer, Kathleen Hurley, and Hannah Dionne, under the supervision of others in the Special Victims Division, and was supported by Investigative Analysts and Counselor Kara Wissing from the Survivor Services Bureau.
