Burton Police thoroughly investigated a bomb threat at a local Meijer store. They determined it was a false alarm not connected to a subsequent mass shooting at a Grand Blanc Township church, according to WWJ Newsradio. The store, located on S Center Rd., was evacuated Saturday after two juveniles from Delta Township reportedly made prank calls because they were "bored," as the Burton Police Department stated.
The juveniles, who have not been named due to their age, may face charges in connection with the incident. Authorities responded to the bomb threat around 8:30 p.m., initiating an evacuation and deploying the Michigan State Bomb Team to sweep the building, which found nothing suspicious. Although these events occurred nearby and just before a deadly attack in the region, the authorities have asserted that the scenarios were unrelated coincidences.
On the following day, a devastating shooting and subsequent fire at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints dramatically shifted community focus. The alleged gunman, identified as Thomas Jacob Sanford, lived across the street from the Meijer store, which initially sparked speculation about a possible link. However, the Burton Police Department, collaborating with the Grand Blanc Township police, concluded there was no connection between the two dreadful events, as reported by WWMT.
The shooting incident resulted in four deaths and several injuries after Sanford reportedly drove into the church during a service and opened fire before setting the location ablaze. The ABC12 states that the juveniles associated with the bomb threat were visiting their mother in Flint Township at the time of their mischievous act. Police are seeking charges against them in juvenile court.
