Kevin Durant, forward for the Houston Rockets, has signed a two-year contract extension with the team. The deal is worth $90 million, with Durant holding an option for the 2027-28 season. This extension could bring his total career earnings close to $600 million, depending on his playing years, as per FOX 26 Houston.
Despite being eligible for a $122 million maximum extension, Durant chose a smaller deal, giving the Rockets more flexibility for future player trades. Rockets forward Amen Thompson called Durant a "generous guy," when speaking to reporters on Sunday, according to Click2Houston. ESPN reported that Durant left $30 million unclaimed, raising questions about other factors influencing his contract choices.
Kevin Durant, traded earlier this year from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets in a deal involving Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks, has signed a contract extension with the team. Rockets coach Ime Udoka said, "I think we all knew when we traded for him and when he came here it wasn't a short-term thing." Durant, who averages 27.2 points and seven rebounds per game and ranks eighth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, said, “it just felt organic and natural coming into the gym and being a Houston Rocket for the first time,” as mentioned by Click2Houston. The extension keeps him with the Rockets through 2028 and gives him a chance to move higher on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
