Residents in Lake County are grappling with the aftermath of intense rainfall and the consequent flooding that has led to the closure of several roads. According to ClickOrlando, over a foot of rain was recorded, with Eustis receiving a staggering 19 inches, prompting these emergency responses. Critical thoroughfares in Mount Dora, including a large section of Donnelly Street from Limit Avenue to U.S.441, have been washed out, while Eustis has closed East Crooked Lake Drive at Country Club Drive due to nearby washouts.
Washouts have also impacted Timberlake Drive near Wolf Branch Road, with the Mount Dora city offices postponing opening until 10 a.m. to enable staff to navigate the disrupted roads safely and allow assessments of the damage, as reported by ClickOrlando. Compounded by the heavy rain and resultant flooding, a precautionary boil-water notice is now in effect for Mount Dora residents amidst concerns over potential impacts on the water system. In response to the chaos, Lake County Schools will excuse any student who, swept by the storm's uncertainty, cannot safely make it to school.
Road closures have also been announced by county officials in parts of Mount Dora and Eustis, with WESH detailing that Limit Avenue at Donnelly Street and Wolf Branch Road from Britt Road to Round Lake Road are among the affected areas. Additionally, roads such as U.S. 441 at Wolf Branch Road were shut, intensifying the transportation woes for locals.
Meanwhile, in Eustis, residents were navigating around closures at Abrams Road at Orange Avenue and Waycross Avenue at Abrams Road amid the flooding. The Lake County Sheriff's Office relayed through Facebook, not immune from the rains' ironic sense of timing, that East Crooked Drive near Country Club Drive is shut down due to two sinkholes perilously close to the roadway, an announcement obtained by WESH.
