A Lake County Sheriff’s Office clerk has been arrested on charges of unauthorized access to law enforcement databases. As reported by ClickOrlando, the clerk, identified as 30-year-old Hannah Colon, was a staff member in the Criminal Investigations division before allegations emerged, leading to her arrest.

An investigation into Colon's conduct began on Oct. 1, when deputies received information that she might have been misusing her database access privileges. Despite being assigned as a clerk, she reportedly used her work desktop to access sensitive information without a work-related purpose since 2023. A search warrant on her computer ultimately triggered an arrest warrant, according to the Sheriff's Office. Additionally, several co-workers voiced concerns over Colon's interactions with a homicide detective while wearing potentially recording-capable Meta AI glasses, and her known association on Facebook with a suspect linked to local homicides.

In a statement obtained by WESH, Deputy Stephanie Early expressed the gravity of the situation, highlighting how "We are only supposed to use our databases for authorized use only. So the fact that there are employees, that this could happen, is very concerning for us, and we make sure that this does not happen again." The investigation showed that Colon had run improper searches, including looking into her husband’s ex-wife and her husband himself for personal matters.

The misuse of the database by Colon reportedly included viewing the ex-wife's vehicular, address, and driver history records, her rationale being the need to obtain an address for an order of protection she filed in June 2023. However, a deputy noted that she could have obtained said information from her husband. Concerns were not limited to the data access abuse alone, but also her inquiring a detective about a homicide trial while she was suspected of having recording devices.

Released on a $2,500 bond, Colon now awaits the outcome of these serious allegations against her. Attempts to reach Colon for comment were not successful, with no response reported as of last night.
