In a move that secures the future of both local agriculture and wildlife in Larimer County, the 675-acre Legend Trail Ranch has been placed under a conservation easement, ensuring the land remains undeveloped and in its natural state. This conservation effort was facilitated by a significant donation from landowner Cheryl Rennels, safeguarding the ranch's sprawling grasslands and rocky outcroppings that are a hallmark of the region's geography.
The easement falls in line with the Larimer County Open Lands Master Plan, which targets the Laramie Foothills area as a key conservation location. According to information from Larimer County Natural Resources, the ranch's proximity to U.S. Hwy 287 north of Livermore makes it a strategic piece of the interconnected landscape of protected lands in northern Larimer County. This move not only preserves the agrarian lifestyle cherished by Rennels, but it also supports the area's vulnerable ecosystems and scenic vistas.
Rennels, who has long been an advocate for the preservation of the agricultural way of life, told Larimer County, "My goal has always been to preserve the agricultural way of life I grew up in and currently enjoy. Partnering with Larimer County permanently conserves what I value: agriculture lifestyle, livestock, wildlife and the beauty of the Livermore Valley."
