Residents of Las Vegas and the surrounding southern Great Basin region can expect a calmer weekend weather-wise, according to the National Weather Service. After a front bringing showers and gusty winds through Friday, the forecast shows a tapering of the storms and a reduction in wind speeds. "Winds will be weaker today than Friday," states the National Weather Service, offering Vegas locals a respite from the blustery conditions experienced at the week's end.
Temperatures are set to dip slightly below normal over the weekend, with the National Weather Service issuing a Freeze Warning for the Dyer area, signaling a potential for the first freeze of the season. "The forecast low Sunday morning in Dyer is 32F, which would be the end-of-growing-season freeze for that area," the National Weather Service noted in its forecast discussion.
Looking ahead, the start of the new week should bring drier conditions with temperatures projected to climb back to near-normal levels. As for the aviation interests, the National Weather Service assures that VFR conditions are expected to prevail post-frontal passage, with the Harry Reid terminal likely seeing northwesterly winds with gusts around 20 knots settling down by the afternoon.
However, the forecast holds uncertainty later in the week as the possible interplay between a trough of low pressure off the West Coast and a tropical system moving north could disrupt the weather pattern once again. "If the trough is stronger and further south, moisture from the tropical system could be funneled up into our area bringing the potential for rain next weekend," explains the National Weather Service, reminding residents to stay informed on the evolving conditions. As always, spotters are encouraged to report significant weather or impacts as per usual operating procedures.
