Las Vegas residents can expect brief showers and isolated thunderstorms through tonight as a low-pressure system moves across the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas reports that the unsettled weather will mainly affect northwest Arizona and is expected to clear by late evening.

Temperatures in Las Vegas will drop slightly, with northerly winds bringing conditions one to four degrees cooler than the previous day. The weather is expected to stabilize by tomorrow, returning to mostly clear skies and typical October temperatures. Another system may affect the region over the weekend, though it is now forecast to be less severe.

Flight operations at Harry Reid International Airport are expected to remain under VFR conditions, with cloud bases near 12,000 feet. Similar weather is expected across southern Nevada, northwest Arizona, and southeast California. The National Weather Service notes that gusty northerly winds will persist for a few hours before decreasing to around 10 knots by 18Z, shifting westerly after sunset and returning to light northerly flow by sunrise.

Over the weekend, gusty winds are possible, particularly in the western Mojave Desert, where there is a 30 to 40 percent chance of gusts over 40 mph late Saturday. The system is expected to move through quickly, followed by dry and mild conditions into the last week of October. The National Weather Service has requested that spotters report any significant weather or impacts as standard procedure.
