Clark County’s Department of Environment & Sustainability, along with the Arbor Day Foundation, is giving away 2,300 free trees to help cool down hot neighborhoods. The free trees are going to neighborhoods hit hardest by the urban heat. If you live in one of these zip codes—89014, 89121, 89119, 89104, 89110, 89103, 89169, 89106, 89102, 89030, 89101, or 89142—you can get a free tree. The giveaway starts at 8 a.m. on October 6 for Clark County residents ready to plant some shade.
Jim Gibson, Clark County Commissioner of the sizzling District G, noted the initiative as a key move in making the community more "climate resilient," as reported by Clark County. "More than just curb appeal, trees also reduce air temperature over time, provide shade to cool down streets and help reduce energy costs for homeowners," said Gibson, echoing the ethos of the program.
While the mercury climbed to new heights in the summer of 2024, setting the record for the hottest summer in Southern Nevada's history, the National Weather Service observed a noticeable cooling in summer 2025. Just a drop in the ocean, but a welcome one, these 2,300 extra trees signal the halfway mark to the project's endgame of rooting an additional 4,500 arboreal allies by spring 2026, as per the Clark County.
