According to KTLA, the Long Beach Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on Falcon Avenue around 1:30 a.m. and discovered Mello with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, but sadly, did not survive.
The suspect, Jose Garcia-Linares, 25, was identified and apprehended by the police. Details surrounding the motive and whether the victim and suspect were acquainted remain undisclosed. Garcia-Linares, reportedly experiencing homelessness at the time, was located and arrested on the same day the shooting occurred, as stated in a release which was also published by the Long Beach Police Department's official website. The case has been presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
