A fresh wave of scam calls has hit Lorain County, with fraudsters posing as members of the local sheriff's department to shake down residents for cash. The scam, which the Lorain County Sheriff's Office is actively warning against, involves tricksters claiming to be a Sergeant from the Corrections Division and demanding money over the phone.
Sheriff Jack M. Hall has been clear on the matter: the Sheriff's Office doesn't make calls to individuals about warrants or ask for payments in this manner. The official warning, as reported by the Lorain County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, comes on the back of numerous reports of these fraudulent calls preying on unsuspecting individuals.
In their response to this deceitful activity, the Lorain County Sheriff's Office has issued a straightforward protocol for residents: hang up the phone immediately upon receiving such calls, refrain from disclosing any personal or financial details, and report the incident to the authorities. "The safety and trust of our residents are our top priorities," Sheriff Hall reminds the community, advising all to stay vigilant and notify potentially vulnerable friends and neighbors.
As these phone scams continue to target members of the community, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguard citizens against such malicious ploys. With the dissemination of scam alerts and safety information, law enforcement hopes to curtail the reach of these fraudulent actors looking to undermine the peace and security of Lorain County. The official communication from the Sheriff's office urges residents to "be aware of these scams and to spread the word - especially to family members, friends, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable."
