On Sunday afternoon, firefighters raced to extinguish an apartment fire in Milwaukee and rescued a man from his third-floor residence. The Milwaukee Fire Department received a call around 3:20 p.m. and promptly responded to the blaze near Holton and Lloyd streets, as reported by WISN. According to Battalion Chief Brian Moore, the proximity of a nearby firehouse, just three blocks away, enabled a quick response from emergency crews.
Fire officials arrived to find fire in the attic and a man unconscious in his kitchen on the second floor, with the fire believed to have started on the third floor of the five-unit building. The unidentified individual, approximately 50 years old and with a disability, was rescued and subsequently regained consciousness once outside the burning structure. He was then taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, reports indicate from WTMJ.
The fire's aftermath left the third-floor unit completely uninhabitable, while another unit sustained minor smoke damage. The Milwaukee Fire Department stated that the remaining three apartments in the building were not affected. Fortunately, no firefighters sustained injuries during the response. Despite the presence of working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in the building, the fire's origin remains under investigation, as FOX6 News learned from officials.
