
The calm of a North Hollywood neighborhood was shattered on Saturday night when a 20-year-old man was fatally shot near Vineland Avenue and Chandler Boulevard, an incident that has prompted a manhunt for the two suspects involved. According to CBS Los Angeles, Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a call about the shooting at approximately 9 p.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, situated not far from East Valley High School, authorities learned the young man had been approached by two individuals and was subsequently shot by one of them, after which both suspects fled the location on foot. The victim was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Struggling for life, nearby residents were left grappling with the sudden violence. Video footage from the area displayed by KTLA showed the police had cordoned off a portion of the Chandler Bikeway, which runs adjacent to Chandler Boulevard, following the incident. Details about the motive and whether the shooting was gang-related remain unclear. In a statement given by an LAPD spokesperson, the two suspects were described as a Black man and a Hispanic man.
The identity of the 20-year-old victim has not yet been revealed, and authorities have confirmed that he was not homeless. In a plea for assistance, LAPD's North Hollywood Station has urged anyone with information to come forward, offering the contact number (818) 754-8300 for any leads or tips that could aid in the investigation.
Meanwhile, the community reels from the impact of this sudden and tragic loss, as the search for the perpetrators continues. "Both suspects then fled the location," the spokesperson said, emphasizing the urgency to locate the individuals responsible for this heinous act, KTLA reports.
