Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Department of Public Works have announced the 2025–2026 Leaf Collection season, which will run from November 3 through February 2026. Bowser asked residents to “and then work together with your neighbors to have leaves in tree boxes or curbside for collection,” according to the Office of the Mayor.

Residents can visit dpw.dc.gov/leaf to find their collection section and follow the schedule for sections A, B, C, or D in all wards. DPW will post schedule updates every Friday, and each area will receive at least two collections during the season, as reported by the Office of the Mayor.

Mayor Bowser announced that the Food Waste Smart Bin Program will expand from 31 to 50 locations by 2026. The Department of Public Works will post leaf collection updates on its website, and the Leaf Tracker will show real-time collection progress, as stated by the Office of the Mayor.
