On Sunday, a Michigan State Police trooper and two other people were injured in a crash on westbound I-96 near Fullerton Avenue in Detroit. As reported by ClickOnDetroit, the trooper was responding to a one-car crash when a second vehicle, driven by a 55-year-old Detroit man, lost control and struck the patrol car.
The impact pushed the patrol vehicle into the first crashed vehicle. After the crash, the trooper and two passengers from the Jeep were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the freeway was temporarily closed for the investigation.
Authorities said the crash was caused in part by the Jeep’s worn tires. First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said, “This driver was not only speeding for the conditions but also had three of four tires worn below the wear bars,” as per ClickOnDetroit. He also stated, “It is important for drivers to remember to slow down in wet weather,” as mentioned by FOX 2 Detroit. The freeway has reopened and the investigation is ongoing. by
