Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson marked a year of policy initiatives and community engagement, outlining progress focused on equity and opportunity across Milwaukee.
According to a Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors release, Nicholson led several initiatives this year, including the allocation of opioid settlement funds for recovery and prevention programs, job creation through the Climate Action 2050 Plan, and legislation supporting the renewal of the Mitchell Park Domes. She also worked to protect legal due process at the Milwaukee County Courthouse in response to ICE activities.
Under Nicholson’s leadership, Milwaukee County received the Robert Wood Johnson National Culture of Health Award, recognizing its work toward racial equity and health, and Nicholson was named among BizTimes’ 2025 Notable Latino Leaders. Her efforts also included advancing projects such as the new Health & Human Services Center and the Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin, as well as expanding accessibility through Spanish translations of County Board meetings.
Community engagement remains a central focus, with continued support for the Milwaukee County Youth Commission and participation in events such as the State of Wisconsin Martin Luther King Day tribute, Juneteenth, and Pride parades. Nicholson also recognizes community members during board meetings to honor Milwaukee County’s cultural diversity.
