The City of Milwaukee is implementing a new ordinance to address unpaid parking citations, focusing on vehicles owned by individuals with repeated offenses. Announced by Alderman Scott Spiker, Chair of the Common Council’s Public Safety and Health Committee, the ordinance takes effect this November and targets about 39,000 vehicles whose owners have five or more citations unpaid for at least 60 days without a court date or payment plan.
According to the City of Milwaukee, to notify affected drivers, the City will launch an informational campaign and send mail warnings before enforcement begins. With over $17 million in unpaid fines, towing of non-compliant vehicles will start in January 2026. Any vehicle linked to unresolved citations may be towed, regardless of whether it is parked legally or illegally.
The measure, introduced during a press briefing at the City of Milwaukee Tow Lot, marks a stronger enforcement approach aimed at ensuring compliance and recovering outstanding fines. The City of Milwaukee is providing advance notice to give vehicle owners time to resolve their debts before towing begins in the new year.
