The Montgomery County Council will hold a full session today, beginning with proclamations recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Fire Prevention Month, and International Pronouns Day. Councilmembers Laurie-Anne Sayles, Marilyn Balcombe, and Council President Kate Stewart will lead the presentations.

According to the Montgomery County Council release, at 9:45 a.m., the Council will receive a briefing from the Office of Grants Management on the impact of H.R.1 – One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The discussion will focus on how the new legislation affects local grant distribution and community programs.

The Council will also review how H.R.1 influences federally funded food and nutrition assistance programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which serves about 680,000 Maryland residents, including nearly 270,000 children.

Following a 1:30 p.m. public hearing, the Council will discuss the potential designation of the Timberlawn property as a Master Plan Historic Site. The Planning Board and Historic Preservation Commission have recommended this designation to preserve the site’s historical significance.

Additional details about the meeting and agenda items are available in the Montgomery County Council's press release and the Planning Board’s draft of the Timberlawn Master Plan Designation.
