Residents of Pitt County are set to gain access to a new facility dedicated to mental health services, as announced by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) in partnership with Trillium Health Resources and Integrated Family Services PLLC. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for the much-anticipated Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) on Monday, Oct. 20, with opening doors to the public scheduled for the following week, Oct. 27. According to a press release obtained by NCDHHS, the center will provide urgent care for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
The facility aims to quickly, offer 24-hour rapid, short-term stabilization for children and adults aged four years or older. It specifically addresses crises resulting from mental health conditions, substance use, and/or Intellectual Developmental Disorders. This innovative approach provides an alternative to traditional hospital emergency departments, which are often ill-equipped to deal with mental health emergencies in a specialized manner.
Dr. Mandy Cohen, Secretary of NCDHHS, emphasized the importance of specialized care in mental health, behavioral health crises deserve a focused, professional response — one that a regular emergency room might not always be able to provide. The upcoming BHUC, located at 3005 Stantonsburg Road, Greenville, NC, is poised to fulfill this need.
Dignitaries and officials slated to speak at the ribbon-cutting ceremony include Kelly Crosbie, Director of the Division on Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Use Services, and Dave Peterson, Regional Vice President (North Central) for Trillium Health Resources. Natasha Holley, CEO of Integrated Family Services, is also to speak, alongside Janis Gallagher, Pitt County Manager, in an event that seeks to amplify the community's commitment to supporting individuals grappling with mental health issues.
Members of the media are invited to attend the ceremony, which begins at 1 p.m. on Oct. 20, and are encouraged to RSVP by 12:30 p.m. For additional details or to confirm attendance, media representatives can contact the NCDHHS via email at [email protected].
