The Pickerington Local School District (PLSD) has officially set Monday, February 23, 2026, as the opening date for the new Pickerington Central Junior High School, welcoming staff and students to the 143,000-square-foot facility. According to an announcement from the district, this initiative falls in line with their strategic goals - housing modern facilities to support academic excellence and efficient operations, and to serve as pillars of the community.
Superintendent Dr. Charles Smialek expressed the district's commitment to this burgeoning vision, stating, "The opening of Pickerington Central Junior High School not only marks the addition of a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility—it also underscores our community's investment in a growing district and our unwavering commitment to student success." As reported by PLSD, the new school will replace Ridgeview Junior High School, which has hit its capacity, and will be realigned to support the district's K-6 level growth as part of their long-term facilities planning.
With a design featuring flexible learning areas and collaborative classrooms, the school aims to reflect the best practices in contemporary education. The district credits SHP Architects and Ruscilli Construction for bringing the project to life through their vision and expertise. To celebrate, a ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated for February 18 at 2:30 p.m., and an open house will follow on February 19 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., inviting the community to explore the new building.
Principal Sheila Evans looks forward to embracing the new challenges and possibilities, explaining, "Pickerington Central Junior High School is not only a beautiful building but also a step in the right direction for our community to continue to grow, learn, and build upon what was started years ago." According to the Pickerington Local School District's description, the facility's completion is a pivotal piece of their ongoing work to create environments that are bound to foster collaboration, creativity, and academic excellence. For those interested in more information, updates can be found on the district's official website and social media pages.
Pickerington Local Schools, serving over 11,000 students across 16 campuses, continues to enhance facilities district-wide, adding to recent projects like additions at Pickerington High School North & Central and a new Early Learning Center. The district remains focused on their four chief goals, aiming to ensure all students are prepared for not only today but for future successes as well.
