The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has rolled out a new Storybook Trail at Independence Dam State Park, bringing an educational outdoor experience that doubles as a literary adventure for kids and families, with the ribbon-cutting on this half-mile stretch of imagination in Ohio’s scenic wilderness. Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine, impressed by the initiative, said, "I’m so pleased that Ohio families have access to another opportunity to read a Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library book in one of our state park’s Storybook Trails," according to a report by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Trailblazing a path that intersects nature with early childhood education the Storybook Trail showcases 'K is for Kindness' which is a picture book inscribed along the path to immerse visitors in the narrative while they get some fresh air and, apart from the main trail at the starting point lies a book exchange promoting the sharing of books among families and sparking an ongoing exchange of stories, fostering a sense of community and love for books outside the conventional library walls.
"Storybook Trails are a wonderful way to connect children with both nature and reading," Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director Mary Mertz stated, pointing out the dual benefit of such projects which the new trail at Independence Dam State Park promises to deliver the trail was put together thanks to a coalition of community partners, including students from Four County Career Center who played a crucial role lending their skills in fabrication, welding, and painting, an effort complemented by park staff who prepared the site and added the final touches, this collective local effort underscores the community's investment in creating an enriching space for the public.
