After nearly two decades of investigative persistence, Harford County detectives have made a breakthrough in a cold case that has long haunted the local community. A new witness testimony has paved the way for the indictment of Gary Williams in the 2007 murder of David Arnold Byrd Jr. On that August day, when Byrd was fatally stabbed on Edgewater Drive, a tragedy was etched into the memory of Edgewood, Fox Baltimore reported.
According to the Harford County Sheriff's Office, Gary Williams was an initial person of interest, but the lack of compelling evidence at the time prevented the pursuit of charges. Time, however, has a way of unraveling the tightly wound skeins of silence. It was the emergence of a recent credible witness that enabled detectives to solidify their case, ultimately culminating in Williams' indictment on a murder charge, as reported by WBAL-TV.
Currently, Williams is serving time within the Federal Bureau of Prisons for a crime that bears no relation to Byrd's murder. Nonetheless, Harford County is prepared to take him into custody as soon as his current term is fulfilled.
