The city is preparing for the "No Kings" demonstrations today, following the large protests in June. As per Gothamist, New Yorkers are expected to join millions across the country in protesting President Trump’s policies. In response to recent federal crackdowns on protests, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has trained over 20,000 people on their rights. ACLU’s Ellen Flenniken said the demonstrations are expected to remain peaceful, but participants are prepared for possible encounters with federal agents.

Organizers expect tens of thousands to attend the New York City portion of the demonstrations, which will begin at 11 a.m. in Manhattan's Father Duffy Square. The events are being held in response to what participants view as violations of constitutional rights. Ezra Levin, co-executive director of Indivisible, pointed to concerns ranging from immigration policies to potential federal involvement in future elections, calling them threats to free expression, according to an interview cited by NBC New York.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is expected to join the protests, though the NYPD has not released details about its response plans. Gothamist reported that the June protests, which took place in thousands of locations across the U.S., were mostly peaceful, with only a few isolated incidents. The NYPD sent a large number of officers to oversee those events. Protests in New York are also planned in the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, and Brooklyn's Grand Army Plaza.
