As the city braces for another round of construction-related disruptions, the North Carolina Turnpike Authority has set the wheels in motion to temporarily cease the flow on Rock Quarry Road. This interruption comes as part of the second phase of the massive Complete 540 project, an initiative dedicated to forging a continuous path for the Triangle Expressway. The goal is to connect the interchange of I-40/I-42/Toll N.C. 540 near Garner and Clayton with the established interchange at I-540/I-87/U.S. 64/U.S. 264 in Knightdale, ultimately completing the outer loop around the larger Raleigh region.
According to a press release from the NCDOT, drivers should prepare to adjust their travel routes as Rock Quarry Road is scheduled to close from Auburn Knightdale Road and Old Baucom Road. This closure is set to begin on Monday night and will reoccur nightly through October 31, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Post-closure, temporary intermittent lane closures will persist to quickly finish the scheduled construction activities.
Alterations to one's usual journey will be necessary during this period of nocturnal closures. Motorists are duly warned to expect delays and to navigate with heightened awareness along the posted detour routes. In an effort to possibly circumvent the congestion altogether, drivers advantaged by alternative options are being encouraged to pursue them.
The recommended detours for those needing to traverse Rock Quarry Road involve a turn either onto Old Baucom Road or Auburn Knightdale Road, depending on their desired direction of travel. These detour routes will essentially redirect drivers through a series of turns onto Brown Field Road, Battle Bridge Road, and loop them back onto Rock Quarry Road. Commuters are advised to diligently follow signage to ensure successfully joining their intended paths.
