The City of North Las Vegas has announced it will be hosting its second annual Arbor Day celebrations on October 22, reinforcing its commitment to environmental education and urban greening initiatives. The city, which earned the title of Tree City USA 2025, will kick off the day's events at 10 a.m. at Liberty Park, located near the city hall.

During the festivities, nearly 75 local elementary school students are set to engage in educational activities provided by Get Outdoors Nevada and Nevada Plants, focusing on local habitat awareness, water conservation, and responsible environmental practices such as the "Leave No Tracks" principle. In a statement obtained by the City of North Las Vegas, Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown emphasized the strategic plan of improving community health and well-being, stating, “One of the most effective ways to address the ongoing heat tolerance issue in Southern Nevada is by planting trees and plants in our neighborhoods. This isn’t a one-day focus for the City as we have a robust tree planting and tree giveaway program to increase our tree canopy.”

Experts from Get Outdoors Nevada, like director of programs Shelly Kopinski, have voiced the educational advantages of such events. "We are honored to partner with the City of North Las Vegas to celebrate Arbor Day by connecting students with hands-on learning that is rooted in nature," Kopinski told the City of North Las Vegas.

With more than 600 trees and shrubs already in the ground this year, the city has set an ambitious target to plant a total of 5,000 by 2032. Lisa Ortega, executive director of Nevada Plants, echoed the sentiment of tradition and environmental stewardship, “Like many generations before, we celebrate Arbor Day to recognize the important role trees play in our communities. I hope everyone in North Las Vegas will celebrate Arbor Day, and plant trees for the future residents of North Las Vegas,” she stated, as noted by the city's website.
