Ohio's efforts to rejuvenate its landscape are underway, with State Representative Monica Robb Blasdel announcing the release of guidelines for the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program. The Ohio Department of Development is now set to provide critical funding to the program aimed at transforming contaminated or abandoned sites across the state.

With a $200 million allocation from House Bill 96, the Ohio State Operating Budget, the program ensures that each of Ohio's 88 counties will have access to at least $1 million in grants. These grants are earmarked for applicants meeting the merit-based criteria set by the program, with an application window that opens on November 12th and closes on December 5th, as reported by the Ohio House of Representatives.

"This program gives local communities the resources to clean up long abandoned or contaminated sites and prepare them for new development," Rep. Robb Blasdel told the Ohio House of Representatives. Addressing brownfield sites not only handles environmental hazards but also seeds the potential for future economic prosperity and the bolstering of community infrastructure.

Interested applicants can join the Department of Development for a detailed webinar on the program's guidelines on October 28 at 10 a.m. Those in charge are set to dive into the specifics and field questions from potential applicants. More information on eligibility, project requirements, and the step-by-step application procedures can be found by visiting the Ohio Department of Development's website here.
