In a move that aims to enhance the transparency of voter data, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose has unveiled a new voter registration data dashboard, providing the public with detailed insights into registration numbers, party affiliations, and demographic data. This initiative, a product of the 2022 DATA Act, stands as a testament to Ohio's commitment to improving the accessibility and clarity of electronic election data. According to a press release from the Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose's office, the dashboard serves to better inform anyone seeking to dive deeper into the state's voter registration landscape down to the precinct level.
"Often government fails to deliver the level of transparency the public deserves," Secretary LaRose said. "We’ve changed that in a big way in our office, creating an example for other agencies and states to follow. Election integrity starts with transparency, and once again, Ohio is leading the nation." His efforts to elevate transparency and enhance election integrity has led to a suite of innovative data resources, including the recently launched Absentee and Early Voting Dashboard, which aims to better analyze voting trends.
The Office of Data Analytics and Archives, a first of its kind, has introduced several tools under LaRose's leadership. These include the Daily Voter Registration Snapshots, offering up-to-date changes in voter registration across Ohio's 88 counties, and the Enhanced Data Integrity Tools for Election Officials, designed to swiftly rectify data discrepancies, thus ensuring more accurate voter rolls. Remarkably, during its pilot phase, six county boards managed to resolve nearly 97 percent of the issues within the first 60 days of using the data integrity dashboard. This efficiency was monumental when compared to previous methods.
Other tools that Secretary LaRose's office has brought to the fore include the Election Results Dashboard, which allows the public to more effectively parse past results and statewide voting trends. These resources not only streamline the process of managing electoral data but also empower Ohio's voters with a greater understanding and oversight of the electoral process. The commitment to transparency is further evidenced by the functionality of these dashboards to quickly adapt to changes and provide essential information at a pace much faster than before. "During the first 60 days of using the expanded data integrity dashboard, six pilot county boards resolved nearly 97 percent of the issues we flagged," Secretary LaRose pointed out, highlighting the efficiency these tools bring to the election process.
