The Ohio State University is making moves to bolster workforce development in the region with its new one-stop Professional and Continuing Education (PCE) portal, designed to support working professionals seeking advanced skill sets, the university announced. According to OSU News, the move aims to make it easier for interested parties to access a variety of noncredit and continuing education courses in one centralized location.

The portal represents a significant shift from previous arrangements where departments each maintained individual webpages for their offerings, making it difficult, if not daunting for professionals to locate or register for courses according to Jason Lemon, vice provost and dean of online learning at OSU, now, with the new framework, users are expected to have a more user-friendly experience when exploring educational opportunities. "This system allows the public as well as our own campus to really see the breadth and the depth of noncredit and publicly available courses," Lemon told OSU News.

Not only does the streamlined site aim to support individuals in Ohio looking to upskill, but it also underscores Ohio State's commitment to extend its reach as a land-grant institution. "Ohio State can educate and reach people across the state," said Jessica Philips in a statement obtained by OSU News, senior director of OAA’s Professional and Continuing Education unit. The PCE portal aligns with the objectives set forth by Gov. Mike DeWine's workforce development initiatives, presenting career-focused, industry-conceived educational certificates.

Supporting synergistic community and industry goals, the PCE portal also parallels the strategic ambitions of Ohio State's President Walter “Ted” Carter Jr.'s Education for Citizenship 2035 plan which focuses on enhancing accessibility and relevance of Ohio State's offerings to the state's population Ben Kitchen, OAA online marketing manager says "We're very much focused on the state of Ohio with these courses and how we can empower Ohioans and Ohio business owners to ensure their organization is primed for success and to meet the workforce needs of tomorrow," according to OSU News. Ohio State certainly seems poised to carve new pathways for education and career readiness in the rapidly evolving job market.
