In a somber development, Palm Mortuary has collected approximately 315 piles of cremated remains that were found scattered in the Nevada desert this summer. The human remains, discovered outside of Searchlight and over 55 miles southeast of Las Vegas, are set to be interred at Palm Downtown Mortuary & Cemetery, as reported by FOX5. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) confirmed the initial discovery and has been involved in the ongoing investigation.
Details surrounding the origins and reasons for the remains being left in the desert remain unclear. Officials from the BLM have confirmed the investigation is active, yet are unable to share additional information to shed light on the incident. "This remains an active investigation, and we don't have additional information to provide at this time," said Kristen Peters with the BLM in an email to News 3. Federal policy does permit individuals to scatter cremated remains on public land; however, the practice of commercial disposal is notably not allowed.
The Palm Mortuary official who spoke to FOX5 affirmed the commitment to laying these individuals to rest in a manner that befits the dignity they deserve. The shared resting place could offer comfort to those who want to honor the unnamed and mark the end of their time in the desert’s solitude.
