Yesterday in South Park Township, an emergency unfolded at Evans Park when wires were downed by a falling tree, entrapment of a person, prompting a rapid response from local emergency services and subsequent hospitalization of the victim.
The call for help at Evans Park was logged at 2:18 p.m. and sent first responders to the scene, where they found the individual in distress. The Broughton Volunteer Fire Department officials said that the person was on a walkway when the tree toppled, causing the utility pole and wires to collapse on them, and in a statement detailed by WPXI, officials recount efforts to stabilize the individual, which they managed to accomplish despite weather that prevented a medical helicopter from flying to the scene which was so inclement that it not only prevented the medical evacuation by air, but also may have contributed to the incident itself.
The Broughton Volunteer Fire Department later successfully extinguished the immediate danger by disconnecting the power, liberating the person from the snarl of wires, as reported in an article from CBS News.
