
As Philadelphia gears up for its Annual Philly Bike Ride this Saturday, the city has released details that will impact travel for residents and visitors alike. The event, which features a 20-mile car-free course, will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will wrap up with a Finish Festival that concludes at 12:30 p.m. by the Philadelphia Art Museum. Notably, the ride is designed to be inclusive, welcoming cyclists of all levels ages 3 and over, highlighting some of the city's most historic landmarks along the way, as stated by the City of Philadelphia.
Anticipate road closures throughout the city to commence early in the morning as the race route is set to be cleared of vehicular traffic. Streets affected include significant thoroughfares like the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Kelly Drive. In a move to surely create some temporary inconvenience, these closures are slated to start as early as 3:30 a.m. for certain streets, with all roads expected to be reopened by 2 p.m. the same day, as reported by the City of Philadelphia.
According to an announcement from the City of Philadelphia, major segments such as Eakins Oval in front of the Philadelphia Art Museum and Benjamin Franklin Parkway between Eakins Oval and 20th Street will see early closures. Additionally, drivers should plan to avoid Kelly Drive between Spring Garden Street and Falls Bridge, as well as MLK Drive between Falls Bridge and Black Road, which are amongst the various roads listed to be closed to traffic.
