The Ohio Valley is currently experiencing a weather event that has brought rain and is expected to continue doing so into the weekend. According to the National Weather Service Wilmington OH, "An upper low will move across the region through Thursday," after which drier air is anticipated to arrive on Friday. However, locals in Columbus, Cincinnati, Wilmington, and beyond should brace for temperatures that will "remain below normal through the weekend."
Today's forecast suggests a continued downturn in weather conditions, with rain expected to become more widespread across the Central Weather Authority's coverage area this afternoon. As a surface low over the lower Mississippi River Valley advances, it is bringing steady precipitation to southern areas first, with northern zones likely to see rainfall later in the day. Winds are expected to intensify too, "with some gusts possibly over 25 mph at times," a detail noted by the NWS Wilmington OH. The easterly gradient is contributing to these robust wind conditions, which may affect travel and outdoor activities.
Into the evening hours and throughout Thursday, rain is forecasted to blanket the region. "Expect rain to cover the CWA tonight and much of Thursday," the NWS Wilmington OH reports. Rainfall could total 1 to 1.5 inches, particularly along and east of I-71, which may result in pooling water on roads and potential hazards for drivers. Temperatures during this period are expected to plummet, with lows tonight hovering in the mid-40s and highs on Thursday just barely reaching into the low-50s.
Looking ahead to the weekend and the start of next week, conditions are not expected to improve significantly. The long-term forecast indicates a pattern of below normal temperatures will persist, with "daily highs in the 50s and lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s." While the chance for a few light rain showers remains, particularly late Saturday into Sunday, the weather will be primarily characterized by more clouds than sunshine, especially near or north of the Ohio River. This subdued weather spectacle could translate to a dreary atmosphere for any weekend plans, so residents are advised to keep their umbrellas and jackets handy.
