Residents and commuters relying on Chisholm Trail Road for their daily travels will need to adjust their routes through the beginning of November. According to official City of Round Rock reports, an unexpected detour has been announced due to the unearthing of previously unknown utilities that disrupted ongoing storm drain installations along the Chisholm Trail South project.
While workers scramble to devise a workaround for the issue, southbound traffic on Chisholm Trail Road stretching from Sam Bass Road to Emmanuel Street is being redirected. Caught off guard by unknown pipes or cables, cars will now be rerouted to the I-35 frontage road and then onto Sunset Drive to rejoin Chisholm Trail southward. To make room for the restructured traffic patterns, on-street parking along this stretch is temporarily kaput.
In a reprieve for the holiday season, there is a pause on the construction front. From November through December 2025, the buzz of bulldozers and the clamor of construction will take a backseat, allowing for festivities unencumbered by the obstructions and the din of progress. Activities are expected to resume full throttle as the new year rings in, with early 2026 earmarked for the continuation of the work.
For those navigating these altered streetscapes, adherence to detour signage and exercising increased caution around the active work zones remains key. Even the most diligent of drivers can be taken by surprise when a previously straightforward stretch of asphalt morphs into an obstacle course of diversions and directives. So it goes without saying, but city officials articulate it nonetheless for the collective well-being: stay alert, stay safe.
