The City of Round Rock is observing National Community Planning Month this October in partnership with the American Planning Association, recognizing the contributions of local planners in guiding growth while preserving the city’s history and quality of life, according to the City of Round Rock.

The Planning and Development Services Department (PDS) is focusing this year on balancing continued development with community heritage. A proclamation for Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Native American Heritage Month will be presented at the City Council meeting on October 9, based on information shared on the City of Round Rock’s website.

As part of the celebration, Senior Planner Lily Park and Planner Pramistha Joshi will host an event on October 18 at the Round Rock Public Library to engage young residents through “Ava Planner the City Planner,” a children’s book by Corrin Wendell that promotes civic engagement and community planning.

Over the past year, community input through surveys and public meetings has shaped proposed zoning amendments designed to make downtown Round Rock more pedestrian-friendly and environmentally sustainable. The City Council is scheduled to review the proposals on October 23, according to the city’s announcement.

All initiatives stem from Round Rock 2030, the city’s comprehensive plan adopted in June 2020, which guides development and infrastructure investments. The observance of National Community Planning Month encourages residents to take part in shaping Round Rock’s future.
