The San Antonio Ready to Work program has recently celebrated a significant milestone, having successfully placed over 3,000 residents in better jobs that offer stable salaries and growth opportunities. As reported by the city's official news release, these positions boast an average annual wage of more than $44,600, exceeding the program's minimum wage expectation of $31,200.
The initiative is not just about job placements; it's also empowering participants to quickly gain in-demand industry certifications and higher education degrees like associate's and bachelor's. "With over 3,000 job placements, Ready to Work is proving that it is worthwhile to invest in our people," Mike Ramsey, Workforce Development Office Executive Director, stated in the same City of San Antonio release. These roles span vital sectors including healthcare, manufacturing, IT, and education, reflecting a broad spectrum of opportunities being harnessed by local talent.
In only the first three fiscal quarters of the year, RTW managed to secure more than 1,315 job positions. Notably, individuals who found employment through the RTW program have seen their yearly earnings surge by an average of $33,000, as per the official figures cited from the city's announcement.
Miguel Espinoza, a beneficiary of the program, expressed his gratitude, telling the City of San Antonio news outlet, "I had no idea the person that was sitting behind a desk one day that said, you know what, I’m going to do this for the citizens of San Antonio, but I thank Jesus every day for that person. This is probably one of the best things I’ve ever done in my whole life." These stories aren't anomalies but testimonials of a program earnestly pushing to bolster the economic prospects of its citizens.
The program's success is also reflected in its impact on local businesses. Over 1,360 small, mid-size, and large organizations have benefitted from hiring through RTW, thereby closing the gap within the workforce. Methodist Healthcare VP of Workforce Strategy and Development Jimena Saenz said in acknowledgment of the program's effectiveness, "Methodist Healthcare is seeing the benefit of this program by helping fill our in-demand jobs in the nursing and allied healthcare fields. We are proud to be a pledged employer, and we look forward to helping more individuals realize their careers."
