San Antonio resident Havanna Miller, age 23, faced the consequences of her actions in a felony animal cruelty case that caught public attention after a disturbing video surfaced earlier this year. Miller has been handed down 8 years of probation after her guilty plea was accepted in the 187th District Court, as reported by local officials on San Antonio's government website. In addition to probation, Judge Stephanie Boyd ordered Miller to pay a fine of two thousand dollars and to participate in anger management and responsible pet ownership classes.
With a stroke of cruelty captured on camera in January, the video showed Miller on her balcony, beating a small puppy, which was the indisputable evidence that led to her arrest the following day. The incident, recorded by a neighbor at the complex off Culebra, sparked immediate action by San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) Cruelty Investigators and the S.A.P.D. Property Crimes Task Force.
The court's ruling also includes a stern provision barring Miller from owning any pets during her probation period. This measure serves not only as a safeguard but as a component of the larger punishment meted out to Miller for her abusive actions. The young poodle at the heart of this case was placed with a foster family experienced in the care of such traumatized animals, confirmed the San Antonio government news release.
