The National Weather Service in Seattle has forecast a week marked by showers and a chance of thunderstorms, starting on October 1st. According to the NWS's latest weather bulletin, today's downpour is expected to bring thunderstorms after 3pm, with a high of 68 degrees. Winds from the south southeast at 9 to 13 mph and an 80% chance of precipitation suggest residents should keep their umbrellas close. "New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms," the NWS report noted.
Heading into the evening, rain and possible thunderstorms are again on the menu before 11pm, then chances of rain drop, with a mostly cloudy night and lows around 54. The south wind, blowing around 11 mph, won't do much to alleviate the wetness. While the chance of precipitation decreases slightly to 60%, the same can't be said for those looking to stay dry.
The forecast for the rest of the week doesn't offer much reprieve, with showers likely on Thursday alongside a high near 68 and similarly brisk south southwest wind at about 9 mph. NWS states there's a 70% chance of precipitation, which continues the week's wet trend, with "new precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible."
Alternating patterns of partly cloudy and sunny skies briefly interrupt the showers on Thursday night and into Friday. With a 30 to 40 percent chance of showers through Friday night, it seems a sturdy rain jacket might be the week's fashion statement. The weekend holds a similar forecast, with slight fluctuations in temperature but steady chances of rain, before giving way to sunnier days starting Sunday and going into next Tuesday. Expect mostly sunny days and clear nights, with the mercury hovering in the mid to high 60s, as if granting Seattle a brief respite before the next front rolls in.
