A fire incident within a Valley Village apartment building has left a senior citizen in grave condition. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the situation unfolded late Sunday evening, with firefighters responding to a reported structure fire at 12360 W Riverside Dr.
Upon arrival, the LAFD crews encountered a three-story garden-style apartment complex but observed no active fire. A thorough search led the firefighters to the second floor, where they found a unit containing burned contents, which had fortunately already been extinguished. Despite the absence of raging flames, their discovery was met with an urgent health concern. "Paramedics are treating and transporting one person (71M) found in grave condition in the same unit," the LAFD statement disclosed.
The victim, a 71-year-old male resident, was given immediate medical attention on the scene before being taken to a local hospital. No other injuries have been reported in association with the fire. The cause of the blaze and the events leading up to the elderly man's condition are currently under investigation, but further details were not made available at the time of reporting.
Firefighters, along with the support teams, including Battalion 14, promptly made sure the situation was under control and that there was no further danger to the other residents. The incident, handled by units from multiple fire stations, was officially concluded at 07:11 PM, as noted in the LAFD alert. Council District 2, where the incident occurred, has been notified of the event.
