In a late-night drama in Simi Valley, an officer's attempt to detain a wanted felony suspect took a painful turn, but a police K9 was quick on the scene to help reel in the escapee. According to KTLA, the incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. on a Sunday when officers approached a pedestrian later identified as Tim Rau, a 53-year-old from Lynwood, who was suspected of having an outstanding felony warrant.
An initial altercation led to more than just a simple foot chase, as Rau provided a false name and then fled when confronted, subsequently the responding officer, whose name wasn't released, tackled Rau, but suffered a shoulder injury in the process rendering him unable to maintain custody of the suspect; it was at this point that a K9 officer deployed his partner to secure Rau. This intense sequence of events ended with Rau subdued and later booked for his felony warrant and for resisting arrest, details that were reported by both Nixle and KTLA.
Rau faces charges related to the warrant and his thwarted attempt to escape law enforcement, with Nixle disclosing that 69 PC — California's code for resisting an executive officer — is included in the charges. The injured officer was dispatched to a local hospital; their condition post-encounter remains a matter of police privacy, as no further details regarding their injury or identity were released to the media.
